week 15

I feel like on the scale of being an informed citizen, I'm at an average to an above average rating. A novice rating would be someone totally uninformed, who doesn't watch the news, or doesn't care about local happenings. An average rating would factor in moderate news following, or a slight attempt at staying relatively informed. Above average ratings can be attributed to those who regularly check the news focusing on local, state, or national news. A distinguished rating would be for those who read several sources for all levels of news, are familiar with past happenings, engage in political conversations, or become actively involved. This isn't a black and white list, but I feel it's a good gauge of measuring ones knowledge on what's happening around them. I truly cannot understand those who not only don't watch the news, but who refuse to watch! Of course I don't like reading all the bad stuff happening in my city or country, but I like to know that it's there. It's important to know if there's a drug raid two doors down, a wreck on your morning commute, a lockdown at a local school, an attack on a prominent building, etc. I try to read WSAZ daily to get local stories as well as national news if included. My twitter feed also consists of several news stations that I try to explore daily. While this doesn't seem like much, I feel well informed compared to my classmates. News is important--good and bad!
