week 5
Never thought I would be writing about meme's, but it's 2018 so let's do it. A meme can be almost anything! People edit photos together, add text to funny photos, morph faces, use stick figures, short gifs, pets, wild scenarios, and many, many, more. While occasionally childish, inappropriate, obnoxious, exaggerated, or silly--they're usually relatable. They're like nice little ice cream sundae surprises for my news feed...until they go super viral & it's like a brain freeze. It's crazy how fast something can gain traction in one days time. My favorite memes usually contain cats, pizza, or Taylor Swift. Popular ones often include a celebrity or politician in the news that week, random cats/dogs, athletes, and famous paintings. Even ones that aren't funny make it big because everyone's talking about it! It's kind of like there being no bad press...no bad memes? I don't see this trend dying down any time soon--and why should it?! Some are offensive, rude, unruly, inappropriate, but the ones that really get me are the ones with terrible grammar (not done on purpose) or spelling mistakes (also not on purpose), and they go viral! If it has an error, I'm not resharing! Proofreading is important, but it usually won't be a factor in preventing something going viral!
