week 10
Depending on who you are determines the type of privacy you have, as well as the type of privacy you can get around. No matter how private my profile is, there are probably many who can read my "protected" tweets. People are only private if no ones looking for information. I try to stay overly cautious in my postings and probably still "overshare". People can't even see my friends list on Facebook and that annoys some people, but it really just makes me laugh. People don't need to know who I have as my friends. For some reason, even with increasing crimes and sharing of horrid stories, it seems today's children are not concerned for their safety. For example, my cousin has thousands of friends on Facebook. She's from Wayne and definitely doesn't know that many people. When questioned on certain men she's accepted, she just says she accepts everyone. TOTALLY UNSAFE. Even at 15, 17, and now 19, she has no sense of fear when it comes to her cyber safety. I can't hardly understand it. I know that overall I'm not as private as I would probably like when it comes to hackers, but I know that I've done everything I possibly can against those who aren't hackers. When I was in middle school we had privacy and cyber talks, but I don't know how this decade has built a wall that they're invincible. We need major media changes with these children. As more resources and applications become available, it is increasingly easier to track people down to kidnap, steal from their home, attack outside, etc. Children aren't even the only ones that need educated on this matter. As the older generations have begun utilizing Facebook and other sites, they're so clueless to what they're doing, they aren't being as safe as they possibly could either. I like to untag myself in many posts from friends and family that I feel are too telling of my life. So some people in Logan County might know about some aspects of my life, but the ones that I may be in immediate contact will not. I don't have any solutions currently, but I know our communities need educated and the fear instilled.
