week 2

The first week of seminar, we discussed where we came from in technology using videos and articles as a starting point. People 35 years ago had no belief in the advancements of technology that we enjoy today. A few of my fellow classmates shared FB posts commented on the gradual change of the current times, when in 20 years it'll look like a large leap. It's hard imagine or guess what can improve when I already feel we're at a maximum! I can call/ text anywhere, any time with my iPhone through either cell phones towers or wireless internet. We can talk through our cars while driving! I feel looking back, we will be amazed at the improvements or changes to the comforts of technology we have in 2018.
The second week of seminar expanded on how certain social media forms got to where they are today, and what keeps them relevant. Something interesting to me in our class discussion was how many people claimed they could easily give up different platforms and that they enjoyed not having them. Did they stay off of Facebook for the remainder of the evening though? Did they delete that one app that holds the majority of their attention everyday, even though they say they would be better without it? I doubt it. While I'll agree, I can go without all of these forms and be just fine, I'm not going to choose to. Many people won't because of this new era acronym "FOMO," or Fear Of Missing Out. This is something people of my generation are so concerned with. I think it would have to be a mass movement for our generation to cut back on technology.
